Taiwan requires Uber to withdraw from the market. Why is this?

On August 1, Didi traveled to announce the acquisition of Uber's China business, indicating that Uber was defeated in the competition of Chinese domestic taxi software and Uber was ready to implement a major strategic shift. Uber is now facing difficulties in Taiwan. According to a report from Reuters, the "investment reviewing committee" in Taiwan of China stated on Wednesday that it will order Uber to use the Uber to withdraw from the Taiwan market because Uber applied for an Internet-based information technology platform at the time, but actually it is the transportation industry. Zhang Mingbin, executive secretary of Taiwan's "investment review committee," said that the final decision will be made before August 11.

Before Taiwan made this decision, regulators in other markets imposed restrictions on the fast-growing Uber. Uber also faces similar legal reviews in other Asian markets, including China and Hong Kong.

Zhang Mingbin said:

The Taiwanese government has communicated with Uber several times. The worst result was that the company was ordered to withdraw from the market. Uber can appeal this decision.

In fact, Uber did not develop smoothly in Taiwan. Uber entered the Taiwan market in 2013, causing dissatisfaction with local taxi drivers. Uber drivers did not pass strict examinations, obtained professional licenses, paid taxes, etc., and it is an unfair commercial competition that Taiwanese people cannot tolerate. In 2014, Taiwan’s transportation department claimed that Uber was suspected of “illegal” operations. In July this year, Taiwanese drivers held a large-scale protest against Uber.

So far, Uber Taiwan spokesman has not yet commented.
