Blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning: building a digital platform for future transformation

According to a well-known consulting firm, Gartner, global IT spending is expected to reach $370 billion in 2018, reflecting a 4.5% increase from the previous year. The growth will primarily be driven by digital transformation, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives. But which areas of IT innovation are capturing the attention of top technology leaders? Five CIOs shared their insights on what excites them most. ![Image](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/pI/YB/AF/q5nyKANARqAABf-fs1mk8133.jpg) **01. Build a Strong Recommendation Engine** Brad Dawden, CIO of Airswift, a recruitment company, sees AI as one of the most promising fields. However, he warns that many companies are mislabeling basic algorithms as AI. He pointed out, “They’re just solving fixed business problems, and suppliers are capitalizing on the AI hype.” Despite this, Dawden believes there are real opportunities, especially in retail and recruitment, where powerful recommendation engines can predict future job trends. “In the future, some companies will be able to track behavior patterns and identify when someone might be looking for a new career path,” he said. While the full potential of AI hasn’t been realized yet, Dawden believes it will enhance human relationships rather than replace them. “Automation will free up time for more meaningful work,” he added. **02. Use Machine Learning to Drive Profitability** Andrew Max, a digital consultant, emphasizes the power of machine learning in transforming decision-making. As former CIO at Tullow Oil, he focused on leveraging data to drive value. “Machine learning allows organizations to make quick, automated decisions based on large volumes of data,” he explained. This capability is especially valuable in industries like retail, fast-moving consumer goods, and hospitality. “It’s an exciting opportunity for IT leaders to improve efficiency and profitability,” he said. With the right approach, machine learning can offer a competitive edge by enabling smarter, faster business strategies. **03. Combine People and Technology for Greater Efficiency** Julian Burnett, CIO of House of Fraser, believes the most exciting development lies in merging physical and digital elements within the supply chain. His team is working with suppliers like Dematic to integrate speech recognition and multilingual support into warehouse operations. “The synergy between technology and human effort is incredibly powerful,” Burnett said. By combining physical infrastructure with digital tools, his organization is unlocking new efficiencies in retail. “This integration is not just about automation—it's about enhancing the customer experience and operational agility.” **04. Leverage Advanced Tech to Improve Citizen Care** Aaron Powell, Chief Digital Officer at NHS Blood and Transplant, is exploring how predictive analytics and advanced imaging can transform healthcare. “Predictive capabilities can have a huge impact, much like advanced imaging techniques,” he said. In organ donation, for example, smarter image-sharing can help transplant teams prepare more effectively. While blockchain is gaining attention, Powell remains cautious, noting that clear use cases are still emerging. “We're focused on reliable, proven technologies that can improve patient outcomes,” he added. **05. Create a Trusted Digital Platform for Future Growth** Kristen Walters, Director of Informatics at St. Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust, prioritizes building a secure and reliable digital foundation over chasing the latest trends. “Our focus is on using trusted technology to improve patient care and reduce reliance on paper-based systems,” she said. Her team has implemented electronic prescription systems and early warning tools to enhance patient safety. “We’re excited about wearable tech for self-care, but we must first ensure our core digital infrastructure is solid,” she emphasized. A strong platform is key to supporting long-term transformation and innovation.

Composite Insulators

The Composite Insulator are made of glassfiber epoxy core rod, silicone rubber shed and metal fittings.
The silicon rubber shed adopt the whole packing pressure technique, can solve the key problem – interface electric spark puncture, which would affect the reliability of composite insulator.
Connection of the glassfiber rod and metal fittings adopts the pressure welding technique of the international advanced level, and have the full automatic sound wave detection of defects system, high intension, beautiful outline, small volume, light weight, and the metal fitting of galvanization can corrosion prevention and exchange used with porcelain insulator.
