Nowadays, IPv6 is gaining more popularity, and many universities have started supporting the IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack protocol. Additionally, affordable IPv6 routers priced under 100 yuan are now available on the market. However, most Android phones do not support IPv6 by default. Fortunately, there are simple methods to enable IPv6 support on your Android device.
**The Origin of IPv6 Networks**
Since the Internet was first introduced in 1968, it has grown rapidly based on the TCP/IP network protocol. As the number of connected devices increased, the need for more IP addresses became apparent. The limitations of IPv4, particularly the shortage of available IP address space, began to surface. In response, the IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) started developing a next-generation protocol—IPv6—to replace IPv4. The successful deployment of IPv6 resolved the IP address scarcity issue and improved compatibility for network devices accessing the internet.
**Introduction to the Android Platform Architecture**
Android is a Linux-based embedded operating system designed specifically for mobile devices, developed by Google and the Open Handset Alliance. Built on the Linux kernel, the Android system uses the Yaffs2 file system and includes custom drivers for mobile hardware. It also optimizes Linux code to better suit portable devices.
The Android framework is divided into four main layers: the Application layer, the Application Framework layer, the Libraries layer, and the Linux Kernel layer. At the lowest level, the Linux Kernel provides essential services for interacting with hardware, including security mechanisms, memory management, process control, network connectivity, and driver implementation.
**Enabling IPv6 on Android Phones**
To enable IPv6 on an Android phone, you first need root access. You can use a one-click rooting tool like "Perfect Root." Once rooted, install "ES File Explorer" and use the Root Toolbox to mount the file system as read-write (RW).
Next, install "SManager," a powerful app for running scripts. On your computer, open Notepad++ and copy the following script:

**Precautions**
This method was tested on Android 4.0 (ICS). If the script doesn't work, make sure the file system is mounted as RW. Also, both your ISP and router must support IPv6, and the router should have DHCP enabled for IPv6.
**Experiment Process: Connecting Android to IPv6**
**Hardware Equipment**
1. An IPv6-enabled Huawei router was used. After verification, the device supports IPv6 and serves as the network source for the experiment.
2. The Xiaomi 4 LTE smartphone was used. Its parameters were confirmed to be suitable for the experiment. The phone model is MI 4LTE, and its full specification is shown in Figure 1 below.
