Kuwait to invest 166 billion to build hydropower projects To cope with the demand brought by the growth of residents before 2020, Kuwait will invest 7.5 billion Kuwaiti dinars (approximately 166 billion yuan) to upgrade and expand 134 hydropower projects.

In terms of electricity, Kuwait’s peak electricity consumption during the year was 11.850 megawatts, and its installed capacity was 14.200 megawatts. It is expected that the peak power consumption will reach 21.600 megawatts in 2020 and the installed capacity will be upgraded to 25.400 megawatts.

In terms of water use, the average daily water use in Kuwait will increase by 35 million gallons (about 1.32 million cubic meters) by 2020.

In terms of sewage treatment, Kuwait will lay a new sewage discharge line. This project was carried out by the Ministry of Public Works of Kuwait and the Atkins Company in the United Kingdom. After the upgrade is expected, Kuwait’s wastewater discharge capacity will reach 2 million cubic meters in 2045, which is significantly more than the current 600,000 cubic meters. In the next 35 years, the project will cost KWD 1 billion (about 22.1 billion yuan).
