The company's production of ordinary incandescent bulbs in 2006 is about 40 million. It is estimated that with the shutdown of incandescent bulbs, CO2 emissions in 2010 will be reduced by about 500,000 tons. In the future, incandescent lamps will be replaced by energy-saving products such as bulb-shaped fluorescent lamps and LED lamps.
A total of 81 kinds of ordinary incandescent lamps scheduled to be discontinued include spherical bulbs with E26 sockets. However, ordinary incandescent lamps, which are used for dimming purposes, bulb-like fluorescent lamps, etc., are still planned to be sold in small quantities. Common incandescent lamps that cannot be replaced include halogen bulbs and reflective bulbs.
Toshiba lighting technology started producing incandescent lamps 120 years ago, and began to manufacture fluorescent lamps in 1940. Light bulb-like fluorescent lamps were put into production in 1980, and the company has since recommended replacing incandescent lamps with energy-saving products. About 120 million fluorescent lamps have been sold so far.
