Japanese companies develop new projectors to watch VR movies without a helmet

The Japanese company Panoworks came up with a good idea to get rid of the head-mounted display and combine projection technology with 3D images. Without wearing bulky Oculus Rift and HTC Vive helmets, users can enjoy unsurpassed VR images.

In essence, Panoworks is a panoramic screen with an HD laser projector on top, which can transform existing VR experiences (such as movies, YouTube videos, games) into 360-degree images. Users can use the trackball to manipulate images, touch screens, and rotating bodies. The horizontal viewing angle is up to 150 degrees and the vertical viewing angle is 66 degrees.

Panoworks provides Kinect and Leap Motion controllers that can only be controlled with gestures. The video output specifications have been upgraded to full 4K levels, supporting 5.1-channel and stereoscopic 3D projection technologies. If you want to use it as a large PC monitor, you can do the same.

Just a short time ago, only a few companies competed for VR customers. Sony will launch the cheap VR platform PSVR next month.
