Philips announced that it will lay off employees at the Hamilton plant

It is reported that Philips has announced layoffs for the Hamilton factory and decided to move the products of the factory here. The Hamilton plant currently produces outdoor luminaires (traditional luminaires and LED luminaires) and SOX low pressure sodium lamps - low sodium lamps and a small number of SOX luminaires will continue to be produced at the plant. The nine product lines of outdoor lighting will be completely discontinued, and the production of LED models will be transferred to other plants in Europe, which specific factory has yet to be confirmed.

A Philips spokesperson said: "In order to maintain flexibility and competitiveness in a challenging economic environment, Philips has improved operational efficiency on a global scale. Therefore, we have notified employees at the Hamilton plant that we plan to be in the first half of 2014. The luminaire production business at the plant will be phased out, and some production lines will be transferred to other factories.

Philips said that the layoffs will have an impact on the production, management and logistics of the lighting business, while the company's business operations staff will not be affected. Philips is negotiating with employee representatives and will take the final decision.
