Qualcomm's former executives took over the augmented reality and led Daqri to new development

According to recent reports, Brian Mullins, the founder of augmented reality company Daqri, has announced his departure from the role of CEO. His successor will be Roy Ashok, a former executive at Qualcomm. Ashok previously served as director of product management for Qualcomm's Vuforia and later held the position of chief product officer at Daqri, where he played a key role in the development of the company’s smart glasses and augmented reality solutions. Since its founding in 2010, Daqri has focused on creating augmented reality devices, including smart glasses used by construction workers and other professionals. After stepping down, Mullins will continue as a consultant and remain on the company’s board. He has been instrumental in transforming Daqri into a leading name in the AR space with innovative products. “Brian has done an incredible job taking Daqri from an idea to an industry leader,” said Greg Casserly, chairman of the board. “We are entering a new phase of growth, and we believe Roy is the right person to lead us forward. His track record and experience have convinced us that he’s the best fit for this next stage.” Ashok joined Daqri in 2015 as its first Chief Product Officer, where he was responsible for developing the company’s proprietary operating system, Vos. He also helped launch several professional-level development tools and oversaw the recent shipment of Daqri’s smart glasses. Before joining Daqri, Ashok worked at Qualcomm’s Vuforia division, where he contributed to the development of the Vuforia platform and the augmented reality cloud recognition system. “I had the honor of being CEO of Daqri, and I’m confident that Roy is the right choice to lead the company now,” said Mullins. “I’ve known Roy for years, and I’ve always respected his technical expertise and leadership skills. He’s the best person for this role.” Beyond smart glasses, Daqri has also developed head-up display (HUD) technology, which is already integrated into over 150,000 vehicles. Ashok is now preparing to take the company to the next level. “I will carry on Brian’s legacy with full commitment,” he said. “He laid a strong foundation with the smart glasses and automotive HUD projects. We have the talent, processes, and partnerships to drive growth and bring augmented reality to more people around the world.”
