Science and Technology News on November 16th, during the Baidu World Congress in 2017, Jing Hao, the general manager of Baidu's business department, announced that DuerOS 2.0 was officially open to the industry. On the same day, Baidu also launched three AI hardware products equipped with DuerOS 2.0: Raven H, Raven R, and Raven Q.

Jing Hao emphasized that as an AI operating system, DuerOS is everywhere, and it aims to revolutionize human-computer interaction. He mentioned that the transition from DuerOS 1.0 to 2.0 brings improved "listening, understanding, and satisfaction" for users and the industry. This upgrade includes enhanced voice wake-up capabilities, speech recognition, synthetic voice, and AI features.
In terms of solutions, Baidu introduced better far-field voice interaction development kits, updated voice-interactive app solutions, and new cross-scenario and cross-device solutions. Additionally, the platform architecture was upgraded with a new IoT equipment cloud, smart device quality certification support, and a more comprehensive system.
The small skill open platform was also launched, allowing content providers, smart home, and life service partners to access Baidu's core AI capabilities such as natural language understanding and knowledge mapping. Currently, the DuerOS skill ecosystem has over 200 skills.
Guan Yusong, Dean of Baidu's Artificial Intelligence Interactive Design Institute, announced the establishment of the institute, which will help DuerOS partners and global AI products continuously improve their interaction design through reports and product evaluations.
The Prometheus Plan was also launched, aiming to open up large-scale dialogue AI datasets, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and provide a $1 million fund to foster excellence in conversational AI projects and talents.
After the event, Jing Hao gave an exclusive interview with the media. He expressed confidence in the future of human-computer interaction and believed that the industry needs patience. He highlighted that Baidu is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation due to its resources, technical expertise, and ability to integrate third-party modules.
In the interview, he addressed challenges in the AI operating system, stating that Baidu's deep understanding of each module and its integration capabilities make it a strong contender. He also discussed privacy concerns, emphasizing that the keyword-free technology is currently used in specific scenarios like mobile apps with headsets, avoiding privacy issues.
When asked about the market potential of the Raven devices, Jing Hao expressed optimism, noting that the market for smart hardware is still growing and that user experience is key. He also mentioned that Baidu is working with major partners like Philips and China Merchants Bank Credit Card to expand its ecosystem.
He concluded by highlighting the importance of user experience in the AI era, emphasizing that DuerOS aims to create a seamless and consistent interaction across all devices. With its focus on innovation, partnerships, and user-centric design, Baidu continues to shape the future of artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction.
