Industrial Internet Helps Accelerate Intelligent Upgrade in Advanced Manufacturing Instrumentation Industry

As a crucial part of China's manufacturing sector, the instrumentation and meter industry has experienced remarkable growth alongside the overall expansion of the country's industrial landscape. In 2017, the gross profit of large-scale industrial enterprises reached 751.87 billion yuan, reflecting a 21% year-on-year increase. This growth rate was 12.5 percentage points higher than that of 2016. Specifically, the instrument and meter manufacturing sector reported a total profit of 86.91 billion yuan, representing a 16.8% rise compared to the previous year. Despite government policies encouraging and supporting the development of the instrumentation industry, China still faces challenges in high-end manufacturing, where there is a noticeable gap compared to global leaders. To address these issues, various initiatives have been launched to enhance the competitiveness of the sector. In response to the State Council’s "Guiding Opinions on Deepening Internet + Advanced Manufacturing and Developing Industrial Internet," the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology established a special working group focused on industrial internet. This move aims to drive innovation and leadership in the nation’s manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) introduced the "Three-Year Action Plan for Enhancing the Core Competitiveness of the Manufacturing Industry (2018–2020)." The plan emphasizes the industrialization of key technologies, strengthening core competencies, and reinforcing China’s position in global manufacturing competition. Industrial internet serves as a critical infrastructure that connects the entire industrial system, supply chain, and value chain. It supports the development of smart manufacturing by integrating advanced information technology with traditional production processes. This emerging model bridges the gap between the virtual and real economies, driving innovation in the production field. In April 2016, Siemens launched MindSphere, a cloud-based IoT operating system, at the Hannover Messe in Germany. This platform enables customers to collect, transmit, store, analyze, and apply data. By collaborating with cloud service providers, Siemens focuses on building an open ecosystem, offering APIs to attract developers and businesses to create industry-specific applications. These apps help users monitor plant operations, implement predictive maintenance, and manage production lines more efficiently. With strong government support for the "Internet + Advanced Manufacturing" initiative, the transformation toward smart instrumentation is becoming a key trend. Instrumentation companies must seize this opportunity, leverage policy benefits, and lead the intelligent upgrade of China’s manufacturing industry.
