LG Innotek and LGD team up to strengthen LED supply chain

LG Innotek, the leading LED business of LG Group, has been officially mass-producing LEDs in the Gwangju Metropolitan City Plant in South Korea since 2000. It has been mainly supplying LEDs for mobile phones, and has gradually covered NB backlights. LED lighting, LED electronic signage, LED TV backlight and other applications.

In the third quarter of 2009, LG Innotek LED Division officially mass-produced LED backlights for LCD TVs. In addition to supplying to LG Display (LGD), it also cut into the LED TV supply chain of TV brands such as Vizio and Skyworth. In this context, the revenue of LG Innotek LED Division in the first quarter of 2010 has surpassed Seoul Semiconductor for the first time, ranking second in Korea's second largest LED factory after Samsung LED. In the second quarter of the year, the revenue of the LED business unit reached 585.1 billion won (about 250 million US dollars), a significant increase of 83.8% compared with the first quarter.

Although the LG Innotek LED business started later in the LED TV backlight application than Samsung LED, it has started to adjust the LED production line structure since the second half of 2009. In addition to the Gwangju Metropolitan City factory, it will replace the Gyeonggi-do Paju LED Park. There is an Anyang City factory in Gyeonggi Province, and Anyang Factory only retains LED R&D performance. It can also be seen that it attaches importance to LED TV backlight applications, so the LED production base is closer to LGD Paju LCD Park.

In addition to adjusting the LED production line structure, LG Innotek is also actively expanding its production. If it plans to increase the monthly production capacity of Gwangju factory's LED die to 50 million at the end of 2010, LG Innotek is moving through LG Electronics in order to improve profitability. /Solar cell fab LG Siltron lays out LED upstream sapphire materials, and LG Innotek also develops sapphire ingot cutting and sapphire substrate recycling.

On the other hand, in addition to the LEDs supplied by LG Innotek, LGD has cut into the LED TV supply chain of TV brands such as Vizio and Skyworth. LGD has strengthened its supply by ensuring its LED supply. Cooperation with LED related operators at home and abroad. Taking LGD and the Korean company Wooree ETI Group as an example, LGD has acquired Wooree LED shares in the Wooree ETI Group's LED packaging factory. With Wooree LED plans to increase its LED packaging monthly capacity to 200 million at the end of 2010, this will benefit LGD. A more stable source of LED supply.

In addition, Jusung Engineering, a Korean FPD equipment factory that cooperated with LGD, has gradually acquired the technology of organic metal chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) equipment, which means that the LG Group is vertically vertical. Integrated layout, covering upstream sapphire materials, MOCVD equipment and even LED packaging.
