Radiation Monitor Timing Counting

The radiation monitor uses a Geiger-Muller (GM) tube to detect ionizing radiation. Each time a particle or photon passes through the GM tube, it causes ionization, which results in an electrical pulse. These pulses are detected by the internal circuitry and counted as individual events. The display on the dosimeter shows the total number of counts detected during the selected measurement mode. Because radioactive decay is a random process, the count rate can vary from one minute to the next. However, when you take an average over a longer period, the readings become more accurate. This device allows you to measure radiation levels over a time range from 1 minute up to 24 hours. For measurements shorter than 1 minute, the instrument displays the count in seconds. You can manually stop the timer at any time. Here's how the timing counting function works: 1. Switch the mode selector to "Total Count/Timer" so that the display reads "TOTAL". 2. Set the timer switch on the top panel to "SET" to enter the setup mode. The display will show the current time setting. If this is your first time using the timer, it defaults to 00:01 (1 minute). 3. Use the "+" and "-" buttons to adjust the time. The increment is 1 minute for settings between 1 and 10 minutes, 10 minutes for settings between 10 and 50 minutes, and 1 hour for settings between 1 and 2 hours. 4. Once the timer switch is turned to "ON," the display will flash three times to start the countdown. During the measurement, the wine glass icon will blink. To check the remaining time, set the timer switch back to "SET," and the display will count down from the set time. For example, if the display shows "00:21," there are 21 minutes left. 5. When the set time is complete, the detector will beep three times. After 15 seconds, it will beep seven more times, and the displayed value will be the total count. 6. Turning the timer switch back to "OFF" returns the device to normal operation. To calculate the average count per minute, simply divide the total count by the duration of the measurement in minutes. This feature is especially useful for long-term monitoring and provides a more stable reading of background radiation levels. Whether you're conducting quick tests or extended environmental assessments, the radiation monitor offers flexibility and precision for various applications.
