"Thousand-wing UAV" makes wind power inspection no longer bother

Wind energy, as a clean and renewable power source, is gaining increasing global attention. China is rich in wind resources, with an estimated 1 billion kW of developable wind capacity. In response to the National Energy Administration's call, efforts are being intensified to further advance wind power development and accelerate its deployment. While the wind power industry continues to grow rapidly, post-maintenance inspections remain a critical aspect that should not be overlooked. Efficient maintenance can significantly extend the lifespan of wind turbines. Newly installed blades typically show signs of wear after about five years—such as sanding and cracking on the outer rubber coating, visible joints, and uneven internal pressure at the blade roots. The leading edge of the blade, which faces the wind directly, is particularly vulnerable, often suffering from severe damage and high natural cracking rates. Therefore, thorough inspection at the end of the wind farm lifecycle is essential. In wind power operations and maintenance, the ability to detect faults using new technologies and resolve them quickly is crucial for improving the overall lifespan of the power plant. Drone-based blade inspections have already proven effective. According to tests, standard drones can complete inspections up to three times faster than traditional methods while reducing costs by nearly 50%. We are proud to introduce a new model—the "Thousand Wings" drone system, along with our WPPS solution. The term "Thousand" in "Thousand Wings" refers to China’s top positioning navigation system, Chihiro, while "Wings" represent Nanjing Aoyi's flight control technology. The WPPS system integrates the latest S0 flight control RTK differential system, Chihiro positioning service, and AYDRONE wind power detection ground station software. It uses advanced sensors and an HD 30x zoom camera to collect data, enabling the detection of damages that are difficult or impossible to spot with the naked eye. This innovative system addresses key challenges in the wind power industry: 1. Enhanced flight stability through improved hardware and algorithms. 2. Dual-antenna RTK system for more accurate fixed-point flight. 3. Chihiro positioning service streamlines base station setup and improves repetitive inspection efficiency. 4. High-resolution 30x zoom camera enables detailed image capture and automatic processing. 5. Advanced ground station software supports 3D modeling and long-term tracking reports. 6. Simplified operation with pre-set parameters and automated flight path generation. 7. Image integration with 3D models creates a comprehensive library for future analysis. From the rotor shaft to the blade tip, from the ground to the sky, and across both onshore and offshore locations, the "Thousand Wings" system is tailored to meet the needs of the wind power industry. It offers technical solutions for every wind farm, planning optimized patrol routes for each turbine, and enabling fully automated inspections that bring greater precision, speed, and safety to the sector.
