4K TV is a decoration? Experts interpret true and false 4K

In an effort to keep up with the popular drama "General in the Army," Li Sisi from Guangzhou purchased a 4K Ultra High Definition television. However, upon bringing it home, she noticed a significant difference compared to what she had seen in the store. Some programs even appeared less clear than those on her computer. To better understand this issue, the reporter spoke with Hao Yabin, vice president and secretary-general of the China Electronics Video Industry Association. According to Hao, while 4K has become the mainstream standard in the TV market, true 4K content is still limited. The industry focuses heavily on the 4K concept, but without real 4K content at home, these TVs are essentially just decorative items. To achieve a perfect 4K experience, four key elements must be present: 4K content, 4K signal interface, 4K decoding, and 4K display. While most manufacturers can guarantee the latter three hardware components, the lack of sufficient 4K content remains a major bottleneck. As a result, many consumers end up buying expensive 4K TVs only to watch standard definition content. It’s like purchasing a branded bottle filled with cheap wine—good looking, but lacking in real value. However, some companies are now breaking through this challenge. Haier TV has made a significant breakthrough in 4K content. According to reports, Haier is the first in the world to offer a 4K film and video VIP service. The platform provides hundreds of 4K and Blu-ray titles annually, with over 1.076 million sets available, including 16,000 movies, 160,000 variety shows, 18 million TV episodes, 250,000 new media videos, and 470,000 animation episodes. This covers almost all family entertainment needs. Users of Haier Ali TV models can now enjoy a 4K VIP subscription worth 798 yuan. They can access more than 2,000 4K movies over three years for as little as 0.8 yuan per movie. Whether it's the latest hit series like “Three Tens of Peach Blossoms,” “My First Half,” or “The Spring Breeze Is Not as Good as You,” all can be viewed on Haier TV right when they are released. According to Hao Haichang, Haier TV began investing in 4K content resources three years ago. In collaboration with Alibaba Group, they ensure that all content meets 4K standards during production. With the help of artificial intelligence and big data, Alibaba Cloud stores 2,000 high-quality 4K titles. All content uses H.265 encoding and runs at a high bit rate of 20 Mbps. Through smart push and storage technologies, users can quickly find and download any desired content with just a voice command. Within seconds, millions of data points are searched, and the content is ready to be enjoyed. Haier TV’s keen understanding of user needs has led to impressive growth. In 2016, while the overall TV market grew by only 7.8%, Haier TV achieved a staggering 76.8% growth, ten times the industry average. Their success in 4K content offers valuable insights for the entire industry. This December, Haier is celebrating its Thanksgiving Month. To meet the demand for updated TVs, the company launched a special promotion for existing users, offering free module upgrades and gifting real 4K TVs to millions of households.
