TDK launches CeraLink – a compact solution for converters

The TDK Group has introduced a new generation of EPCOS CeraLink® capacitors, offering an ultra-compact solution for snubber and DC-link applications in SiC and GaN-based fast-switching power converters. These advanced capacitors utilize PLZT (lead zirconate titanate) ceramic technology, which allows them to achieve their maximum capacitance at the applied voltage. This unique property enables better control over ripple voltage as the voltage increases, ensuring stable and efficient performance. Among the smallest models in the CeraLink series is the SMD low-profile capacitor, measuring just 4.25 mm x 7.85 mm x 10.84 mm. It is rated at 500 V DC with a capacitance of 1 μF. A solder pin crimping model is also available, featuring a larger size of 33.00 mm x 22.00 mm x 11.50 mm, a capacitance of 20 μF, and a voltage rating of 500 V DC. Both models boast extremely low ESL values, below 3.5 nH, making them ideal for high-frequency applications. Designed to operate between -40°C and +125°C, these capacitors can also handle short-term exposure up to 150°C. The compact design of the SMD low-profile model allows it to be embedded directly into IGBT modules, significantly reducing parasitic inductance. This helps prevent dangerous voltage spikes during switching, improving system reliability and efficiency.
