On a recent Friday, the National Development and Reform Commission released a notice outlining plans for the next generation of information infrastructure in 2018. The announcement highlighted that local governments would focus on developing 5G technology, with at least five cities starting to build 5G networks. The pilot cities for this initiative have not yet been officially announced, but the plan includes major urban areas such as the municipalities, provincial capitals, and key economic zones like the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The goal is to ensure continuous coverage in complex urban and indoor environments, supporting real-world application scenarios. Key targets for this 5G rollout include building 5G networks in at least five cities, each with no fewer than 50 base stations, providing broadband data services of at least 100 Mbps with millisecond latency. The network should also support at least two types of advanced applications, such as 4K HD streaming, augmented reality, virtual reality, and drone operations. Additionally, the total number of 5G terminals across the network should reach at least 500. With all these developments, it's clear that 5G is moving forward rapidly, and the future of high-speed connectivity looks brighter than ever.
